{"id":4849,"date":"2015-02-27T17:59:31","date_gmt":"2015-02-28T01:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eugenehallidayarchive.com\/?p=4849"},"modified":"2025-01-23T19:12:14","modified_gmt":"2025-01-24T03:12:14","slug":"20-dont-be-scared-its-only-a-movie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/eugenehallidayarchive.com\/?p=4849","title":{"rendered":"20.  \u201cDon\u2019t be scared!\u2026 It\u2019s only a movie!&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">If you do not know where you are now, you will have very little chance of getting to where it is that you imagine you would like to go next.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I have never been particularly interested in the personality of messengers\u2026 and I was never looking for a \u2018Father Figure\u2019 either \u2026 or for a social situation\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I was simply looking for answers to my own questions&#8230; And in my search for them I always saw myself as primarily responsible for anything and everything that might happen to me as a consequence of my various attempts to find them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Dealing with any relationships (imagined, casual, or otherwise) that may, or may not, have developed from time to time along the way, was \u2013 for the most part &#8211; of relatively minor importance to me in all of this \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&nbsp;What do I hear here most of the time (both \u2018out there\u2019 and \u2018in here\u2019)? \u2026 That would be the sound of a million rattles being tossed out of a million prams\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">On &#8220;Owning it&#8221; &#8230; and Materialism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">It\u2019s fairly easy to understand a process whereby those who view others as being the originator(s) of \u2018esoteric\u2019 material\/ideas etc. would come to view these \u2018originators\u2019 as subsequently \u2018owning various \u2018rights\u2019 to these \u2018creation(s)\u2019 of theirs &#8230; Because &#8230; well &#8230; every created \u2018thing\u2019 must belong to &#8230; be the property of &#8211; to dispose of as they see fit &#8211;&nbsp; \u2018some\u2019 creator or other&#8230; Mustn\u2019t it? \u2026 \u2026 \u2026 \u2026 \u2026 Mustn\u2019t it???<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The consequences of the present Copyright Laws as they stand is sufficient to explain this \u2026 Which, after all, was the intention of the original Copyright Act &#8211; brought in at the time of Queen Anne by the Brits around 1710 during the early days of the \u2018Enlightenment\u2019 &#8211; and after which everything in the future (in Europe at least) was obviously, as a direct consequence&nbsp; &#8211; going to be (so to say) \u2018all plain sailing\u2019 from now on\u2026 At long last \u2026 \u2026<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">So! \u2026 \u201cWhat a relief then!\u201d \u2026 It\u2019s all simply about \u2018due process\u2019 now \u2026 Just \u2018the way it is\u2019 &#8211; one might say\u2026 \u2018Mechanical&#8217;, even\u2026 \u2018Out of our hands\u2019, so to speak\u2026 &#8230;\u2018Hallelujah!\u2019 then \u2026 I suppose\u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">There are those who both claim that Eugene Halliday\u2019s \u2018creations\u2019 are, in some way, \u2018Universal\u2019 (with a capital \u2018U\u2019) while that at the same time maintaining that they \u2018belonged to him\u2019 \u2026 And subsequently, in a number of cases at least &#8211; and particularly for those who hold to this second view here &#8211; that this material has now somehow, almost magically, come to \u2018belong\u2019 to them! \u2026. As opposed to say, believing that this material simply \u2018emanated\u2019 from him &#8211; but then, I don\u2019t happen to believe that either.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">For me, this material constitutes the \u2018fruits of his labor\u2019 \u2013 and I see him as subsequently making this freely available to all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">How others involved themselves with it \u2013 by Working with it; or attempting to own it; or distorting it to suit their own pursuit of power etc. thus becomes their responsibility entirely \u2013as do any consequences that arise from this freely-entered-into involvement of theirs<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The problem with any belief to the effect that the ideas and concepts of Eugene Halliday \u2018came through\u2019 him; that is, that he received them in some way from what he referred to as \u2018the field\u2019 &#8211; is that this is a belief that can be held for the production of anything by anybody\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">On the other hand, you could always defend the idea that he had become a vessel for these ideas by preparing himself somehow; or that he had \u2018been prepared\u2019 as a result of the efforts of others in his direct ancestral past &#8211; as a consequence of his birth and so, \u2018in his DNA\u2019 I suppose (so something of a \u2018freebie\u2019 then); or by some supernatural agency or other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">This viewpoint actually starts to becomes a little more entertaining when those involved here attempt to simultaneously advance some hashed-up version or other of these \u2018received\u2019 ideas of Eugene Halliday &#8211; while simultaneously attempting to make sure that everyone \u2018knows\u2019 that someone (or something) else was <strong>really<\/strong> responsible for \u2018all this stuff\u2019!\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I suspect though, that this is simply because there <em>just might<\/em> be troubling repercussions here, and \u2026,\u201dWell! \u2026 That would <strong>Never <\/strong>do!\u201d\u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">A perfect example then, of that \u2018monkey with its hand stuck in the jar\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">It is the difference between what it is that constitutes \u2018knowledge\u2019, as opposed to \u2018wisdom\u2019 that is crucial to any real understanding of the \u2018why\u2019 of \u2018what it is\u2019 that is going on here\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">There is overwhelming evidence to show that Eugene Halliday spend a great deal of his his time reading (I understand from a very reliable source that he did so every day) and then making notes about (or of even sometimes copying word for word) the variety of subjects contained in the many books that he read.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Regrettably though, most of the time he did not (or was even perhaps unwilling) to reveal the sources on which he based at least some of the ideas that he subsequently expounded upon, during the delivery of his various talks, or that he included in his various essays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Nonetheless \u2013 whether you know directly of any particular source or not &#8211; it should still come as no surprise that the subsequent ideas he fashioned from these studies of his do reflect the original ideas that are contained in them. And thus they reveal, not only his own particular preferred interests (and biases), but also illuminate the zeitgeist (the \u2018Aion\u2019) out of which these ideas &#8211; so to say &#8211; \u2018came to be\u2019\u2026 The clearest examples here for me concern his comments regarding gender and race\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I have never viewed Eugene Halliday\u2019s material as somehow being \u2018the last word on any particular subject\u2019 or as \u2018Universal\u2019 (or even \u2018universal\u2019). And certainly not part of what is referred to as a \u2018Perennial Philosophy\u2019. (This is a relatively recent fashionable concept that went out of the window with Nietzsche as far as I\u2019m concerned &#8211; who does a very nice job of rendering it not \u2018incorrect\u2019 but rather, \u2018still-born\u2019) &#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">In my view, there can be no such thing as \u2018the last word\u2019 (particularly here) and I would say that Eugene Halliday\u2019s material was already in real danger of approaching its \u2018sell-by date\u2019 even before he died\u2026 \u2026 It\u2019s about the \u2018in-the-now living word\u2019 only (and not the \u2018blow-up doll\u2019 version of it).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Eugene Halliday did \u2013 I believe \u2013 demonstrate this Working \u2018in the now\u2019. But the only real purpose this activity of his serves &#8211; as far this activity concerned others \u2013 was merely to demonstrate that it could, in act, be done\u2026 Which is to say that it is demonstrably \u2018in the now\u2019 possible to do \u2026 Regrettably though, ultimately one has to demonstrate this activity to one\u2019s self &#8211; for one\u2019s self\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Coming together to form \u2018The Eugene Halliday Fan Club\u2019 is not allowed here then\u2026 In former times this behavior would have been called \u2018Idolatrous\u2019 \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u2018To respect\u2019 here though, is something else \u2013 although one must ever be on guard for demonstrations of the bogus \u2018Uriah Heap-ish sycophantic twerpery\u2019 version of this \u2013 beloved by those who seek pleasure from their indulgence in all manner of those \u2018diverse cringings\u2019, that my more austere Protestant ancestors were so incensed by.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca\u25ca<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The fruits of \u2018Creativity\u2019 can be viewed &#8211; in part at least &#8211; as an attempt to illuminate the \u2018human condition\u2019 (to supply \u2018answers\u2019 here, as it were), and so it is easy to see that \u2018Gestating\u2019 and \u2018birthing\u2019 can often serve as very useful metaphors for all this \u2018artistic\u2019 or \u2018creative\u2019 activity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u2018Creativity\u2019 as \u2018gestation and birth\u2019? \u2026 \u2018Woman\u2019 viewed then as a biological supplier of \u2018answers\u2019 here perhaps? But I now believe that this is a project that is rapidly approaching the end of its usefulness. At least where it concerns those who might have become interested in &#8216;these sorts of things&#8217; during the earlier part of this second millennium. Because, in my opinion, the manner in which this subject will be approached, disseminated, and discussed, will become as radically different as the manner in which significant texts were approached, disseminated, and discussed during the period before the invention of the printing press compared to the one immediately after it. A period that continued (in much the same way) right up until&nbsp;the advent of the personal computer and universal access to the world-wide web.
